Okay, I'm in for boots on ground disaster assistance.
I'm not a young buck any more but, I've got skills. I can sleep on the ground even in the cold and rain and work for days on end, self sufficiently and not become another needing rescue. I've thought about it before but this time I'm committed to getting prepared to help anywhere on a moments notice.
I will budget and set money and supplies (where prudent) aside and be prepared to be useful in such events. I know there must be others among us who feel the same or are already prepared and involved in such things. This would also be great, low key, local outreach and social capital for our guys. Keep your head down. Do the work. Don't be a burden in the process and when asked why you're helping let them know what you believe about our people and let it go. Make local friends if possible. If the conversation continues, just give a gentle nudge in the direction of the club. If they are like us, they'll look into it.
Timely crowd funding for responsible people and groups, logistics and coms for the effort could be supported by competent people in this community, if we were just a little organized for it and had some subgroups prepared to deploy. It's always best not to strike out alone on such an aid mission but I'll be preparing with this group or another.
I’m incredibly annoyed and frustrated- I asked in a church group chat if we could get some money together to send to a group who is helping down there (from New York) and essentially got told to not worry about politics and focus on spiritual health from my parish priest.
Yeah I’m more worried about folks not getting the help they need!! Food ! Politics??? Fml
