The Lions are in the playoffs, so it is alive and well for me this season!

I'm pulling for them. It would be nice to see then win

Us smaller market teams always are the underdog unless you have Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes starting for your team.

Dan Campbell is a madman and doesn't say no, he is what a leader of men actually should be. I can finally say it's inspirational instead of dreadful.

I agree with you, but I think the engine that makes the Lions run is Ben Johnson's offense. This might be the Lions best shot. Campbell is not a scheme guy, he's a leader, which is important. Unless the Lions have someone waiting in the wings who can take over the offense, the Lions might be just a nice story at the end of the season. I don't think Johnson can wait another year to grab a HC gig, he's a hot commodity

You niled it right on the head, I am hoping he stays and knows what he can do here. Our defense is only going to get better as they have been basically playing bend but don't break with a solid pass rush.

Johnson won't have another offensive line like that unless he goes to the Eagles and revamps that squads scheme, otherwise he would be working with scraps. I just cannot believe I am even saying things like this, FORWARD DOWN THE FIELD!

Haven't watched for at least 8 years. They were always trying to push the next progressive agenda and seemed to be rigged games which was irritating. It is not a sport but an entertainment league so they have no obligation to play fair or by rules, they just try to make you think they are.

There's too much money involved for the scales to not be tipped. Either small scale like a ref here and there or a league wide conspiracy. Probably in between. At Medeival Times, they choose which knight wins. It's closer to pro wrestling than they can admit, even if it's not scripted

Alabama made the playoffs this year though

You're 100% correct. Article has been updated to reflect. My apologies, I messed that up

College football has become a farm system for the pros. The playoffs, transfer portal, and money has ruined college football. There was a time when being an Alabama fan was a point of pride because the players were from Alabama (or at least the south), and now we have players from Hawaii and California. It's not the same, it's just a cheap knockoff of what it once was.

The college football playoff will be 12 teams not 16

Interesting (and most likely accurate) analysis. I think you're right about the NFL going the way of the NBA. LeBron's "King James" schtick was part of the reason I fell out of the NBA cycle for a long time; it felt like if you didn't have James or Steph Curry on your team, there was basically no point in watching because you knew whichever team had one of those guys on their team was going to win the whole thing. I think now that James is on his way out and there is no clear successor of undisputed superstar to define the league, I find the sport is somewhat interesting again, though it's only a matter of time until they find someone else to fill his spot.

Also, speaking of foreign recruits filling the gap in NFL prospects left by recalcitrant Americans; my friend works for the Dallas Cowboys media team and he says that he thinks there's going to be a big push to spread the NFL beyond the few expo games in Europe in the next few years. They skipped playing an expo game in Mexico this season but he seems to think that they're really going to push for more expo games there and in Europe and try to give the sport a more global appeal on par with baseball or basketball. Apparently, there's high demand for gridiron football in England in particular, but I'm not sure an NFL team would be all that feasible.

Yeah, unless they bring back concord flights, that is going to be a tough sell to players, coaches and American fans.

Nice to see some football appreciators in this scene writing insightful things on the sport. Sad to see what is happening to the game.

Amen. Too many “sportsball” quips in the Dissident Right. It’s ok to play, and analyze sports.

Quit watching both the NFL and F1 years ago for these very reasons. I missed precisely 1 F1 race from 2002 until 2015 or so. Considered watching again, but the introduction of the feminine halo and the st floyd inspired political activism on the grid killed that, and from what little Ive seen in passing from the sport since, Ive not missed much with their gay and uninspiring hybrid engines that only elicit glee from bugman types devoid of passion about motorsport

Stopped watching all of it years ago. Go watch a high school game and support your local community instead of billionaires.

The NFL and college football are awesome right now. The end of an era for sure. Don’t give up just yet though. The AFC title could easily be two defensive coaches in Bills vs Texans. I think we have seen a resurgence in defense this year and people are still watching the game more than ever. It’s a big offseason for the competition and rules committees. I don’t think major rule changes are guaranteed since ratings were so good.

The same problems detailed here about football and basketball also apply to baseball. The NFL wants 32 little Bradys, the NBA wants 30 little MJs, and MLB wants 30 little Barry Bondses who can get the home runs without the embarrassment of being caught juicing.

Europoor who doesn't understand football here, it's very interesting (at least to me as a Croat) that all three of these legendary coaches have a Croatian ethnic background, so yeah, y'all are welcome
