I will recommend wrestling. It is a sport that is not commercialized, is open to boys of all sizes, you don't have to be a super athlete because skill and hard work can be enough to make the difference, and it fosters individual responsibility and a toughness that no other sport can match. I will admit as a former wrestler I am biased.

fwiw, another contributing factor to the dwindling of arguments over athletic ability during social gatherings, is the development of statistical automation. Remember, it was always about that, you argued for your guy, and cited random stats you heard on TV. My teenage son still does this. But I notice that it's less about arguing with his friends, he doesn't even have a point to make, the bragging is about having memorized more points of data than his friends. Thanks AWS, you see this hawked about as much as "END RACISM" (which as Morgan Freeman points out, could be ended simply by not fricking talking about it all the garang time) during the broadcast.

On a similar note, the rise of Fantasy Football has also dissolved team loyalty and thus whatever semblance of local loyalty fans may have had. And encouraged further masturbation to statistics.

Still, both of these factors can't hold a candle to Colin Kaepernick -> George Floyd's dramatic turn of the industry, clearly the Woke religious takeover is 95% of the problem. It is funny and infuriating that at the start of Kaepernick's kneeling shenanigans, that the left was flipping out about evangelicals making "even football" into their religious outlet. Now here we are, saying prayers to the trans racist gods before every game, and no one bats an eyelash.

"that the left was flipping out about evangelicals making "even football" into their religious outlet"

It's an old game played often by the Left. Complain that "X" has been too politicized/affected by religion with the end goal being to politicize and orient "X" to whatever Leftist political shibboleths and incantations are most in style.

The new favorite American sport is called politics. More important than even Pickleball, it has attracted almost everyone in the stupid nation.

What on earth is pickleball?

It is a new sport for those not co-ordinated enough for ping-pong or tennis. Consider it the new Corn Hole (and isn't that a fine name for a game?).

Yeah, I don’t know what corn hole is either lol

Corn Hole is where alcoholics can toss bean bags across a room and try to get them into a hole on a slant board. It used to be a homosexual mating ritual.

Professional sports of any type is like a trip back to my childhood, watching my grandfather's reactions to Mid-Atlantic championship wrestling in the early 70's. It always amazed me how he could be so enthralled with something so obviously contrived. But he sure did get wound out about it.

When I watch a sports broadcast, I record it ahead of time and then fast forward through the commercials. I have a DVR and am not afraid to use it. I almost never watch commercials because I almost never watch anything live.
