Long before this current thing I had already consigned modern 40K lore to the scrap heap. The lore/rules my friends and I like are the old late 90s and early 00s stuff, and since we're not avid tabletop 40k players who do tournaments and stuff, we don't care if GW collapses and stops making minis. Some of us hope they fail lol :P

I've really enjoyed the lore of the Warhammer universe(s) but cannot abide that anti-white excuse for a company that is Games Workshop. The lunatics of Nottingham have truly taken over the asylum, therefore I'll be looking towards Battletech and Talisman to get my fill of tabletop gaming.

Battletech has always been my favourite, and probably will remain so. It might even be my fave scif-fi setting of all time.

Thankfully it is easier than ever to enjoy older books/games/etc. then ever before. I rarely (Helldivers 2 being the exception) play games newer than 7 or 8 years old or read any books that came out after 2014.

Just finished an article about this myself. I'm in 10th edition myself because I'm priced out of anything before but my alternative is just to 3D print and just use OnePageRules' game Grimdark Future.

None of us will ever have a need for GW because this is the way they're going. I'll also admit that I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to the game but I ain't trying to change the game to suit me. It suited me just fine. It's the company that doesn't.

Mordheim.

The introduction of the Primaris, the return of Guilliman, the shitty new logo--all of this opened the door to this. Moving the timeline forward was the ultimate mistake. The fact that the universe was eternally balanced on the precipice was a large part of the draw. Introducing progress made Progress (TM) inevitable. Within a couple years they'll use the new and improved Primaris template to introduce female space marines. It's a foregone conclusion.

I kind of liked the advance in plot, but that’s because I’ve always liked the lore more than the game. But ultimately, the lore is just the setting. It’s not meant to be a story with resolution

Not going to lie Warhammer was always trash. Even the old rules sucked, minis have always been stupid expensive, an GW remains unchanged in its horrible liberalism.

Yeah I don’t think a lot of people get that it has always been a bunch of Lefty Brits at the helm. They unintentionally made us root for the Imperium, but obviously meant it to be a dystopia (bad evil religious xenophobic dictatorship)

Play heresy tbh 7th ruleset and no wamen allowed (the rules are too complex for secondaries)

OPR is a good ruleset too that allows you to use whatever minis you want

Starting to think 40k novels are DR canon alongside Evola, Burnham, and Murray

How do you get into Warhammer? I’d like to but have no idea where to start. Never played serious board games before (unless you count sorry and monopoly).

"Warhammer" is a product; the hobby is miniatures wargaming, and contains much, much more than one company's products.

The fading giant guys on YouTube have a decent series of videos on how to get into the hobby. Or at least they used to but I cannot find a link anymore.

Apparently GiantGeo (Dave Martel) is working on his own fictional universe in a similar vein to 40k, but cooler.

Hmm I appear to have conflated two people into one. Dave Martel is not GiantGeo. Dave Martel is the guy I was speaking about doing the fictional universe. Apologies to both gentlemen.
